Revenge Giving

February 22, 2021      Roger Craver

Among the many unconventional topics we’ve posted on– rage giving,  the Trump bump ( here, here and here among many), and have even dick pics and mince pie— today’s entry takes the prize.

When Tommy Marcus, a 25-year-old University of Michigan graduate, learned that Rush Limbaugh had died, he recalled Limbaugh saying, “You know how to stop abortion?  Require that each one occur with a gun.”

So Marcus marked the death in a manner he felt appropriate:  He donated $100 to Planned Parenthood in Limbaugh’s memory.

Marcus then posted a screenshot of his donation to his Instagram page, Quentin Quarantino, that had a half million followers as a result of months of posting on pandemic life and criticizing conservatives.  Then he decided to turn that post into a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood and set a goal of raising $10,000.

By Sunday morning (2/21 as I write this) Marcus’ Quentin Quarantino Rush Limbaugh Memorial Planned Parenthood Fundraiser has raised more than  $1.2 million from more than 44,000 donors – with, according to Marcus an average gift of $23.

A self-styled “voice of the pandemic” Marcus views his job as delivering some levity and hope in a desperate time.  “I think the biggest point of all of this is that, especially right now, I think everyone feels powerless, alone, defensive, divided,” he said. “Maybe this fundraiser can be a little reminder that there’s still unity and humanity right now That even a small contribution can fuel a tremendous impact.”

You can follow the progress of Quentin Quarantinio’s Rush Limbaugh Memorial Planned Parenthood Fundraiser by clicking on this link to Marcus’ Instagram page.

P.S. We also  note that in the same week of Limbaugh’s death – but on the “normal” end of the fundraising spectrum– a Texas relief effort was launched by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to help storm-battered Texans.  This effort raised more than $4 million in just a few days

Amazing story Roger, thanks for enlightening us once again.

Same principles as always, just in different media garb — I love it!! Thanks for the reminder to look for opportunity in unusual places. I’m keeping my eyes peeled!

  3. Didn’t give to this one, but I’ve made tribute gifts myself to Planned Parenthood in honor of notorious forced pregnancy politicians.
The thought of the person receiving a notice that a gift to their worst nightmare was received in their name is a very compelling protest.
