Are You Making A Difference?
For many people, the value they find in what they do (after the pay raise and reputation gain) is whether they are actually making a difference.
Are they improving something — their product, service, work culture, community, the world?
It seems like there are two points on the calendar when we tend to reassess such things … the dead of summer (during the August doldrums when our minds tend to wander as the workplace perhaps slackens) and the dead of winter (as we contemplate the new year and what we might hope to accomplish or change).
So here we are in the August doldrums. A good time to reflect and ask yourself — am I making a difference?
If not, why not? Where’s the blockage — inside you, inside your work environment, missing knowledge or resources, an external factor you can mitigate or overcome, overwhelming need? What can be changed to create the opportunity for you to make a difference?
If yes, high fives … but what can you do to pour it on?
