Be Memorable

One of The Agitator’s Aussie readers, Jane Coombs, sends this auto-reply message she received from Global Corporate Challenge. Thanks Jane!

Thanks so much for your email. The only problem is that you’ve emailed noreply@gettheworldmoving.com which is an unattended inbox…well apart from me of course, but I’m just a computer and I don’t know how to do anything except send this email…but I do this really well. However, I do also know that there are the wonderful people at the GCC just waiting for your enquiry via the Contact Us page – http://www.gettheworldmoving.com/contact Thanks again, I don’t get to talk to many people, you’ve made my year.

I love it!

Someone at Global Corporate Challenge (a workplace health program): a) has a sense of humor; b) as importantly, realizes that each and every contact by a visitor/inquirer is an opportunity to make a positive and distinctive impression; and c) facilitated a further contact actually occurring.

We should all be this attentive to and creative about contacts from our customers, donors, members and visitors.

  1. Jane says:

    Thanks for sharing Tom! 🙂

  2. This is the out of office email we recommend that our executive volunteers use when they are visiting us in prison:

I will be out of the office ENTER IN YOUR PRISON EVENT DATE HERE because I will be in prison. I should clarify. I will be in prison judging inmate business plans for the Prison Entrepreneurship Program, a nonprofit organization I support. Please check them out at http://www.pep.org, and maybe you can come to prison sometime, too!

  3. Great auto-reply. But, really, all “noreply@” email addresses should be abolished before it gets to this point!

How unfriendly it is when I see that “do not reply” language in an email newsletter or confirmation. If you have a customer service department (and clearly you do if you have a contact us page), just have someone monitor that email address.

Why make it hard for supporters/customers to interact with you? If they prefer to reply to an email instead jumping through hoops to find a contact form, let ’em! Would you send a friend or family member an email from a “noreply@” email address? Treat your constituents like human beings!
