Doing Versus Wishing

September 30, 2014      Admin

Wearing your fundraiser hat, what are you wishing for today?

A 7-figure bequest?

An executive director or CEO who values fundraising and likes to do it.

A 2% response to your current acquisition mailing?

A client who gets it?

Any new client?

A big fat 3-year foundation grant?

A new development director?

A record-high retention rate?

Someone to explain search engine optimization?

A call back from your key major donor?

A report that as of 30 September your YTD fundraising revenue is up 25% over this time last year?

A promotion? [Go back to previous wish!]

OK, you might not influence — and, even less likely, control — all those outcomes. However, some could be within your grasp.

But as Seth Godin said in this very pithy recent post: “If you’re not willing to do anything about it, best not to waste the energy wishing about it.”

Amen!

Tom

Amen! I’ve never seen such lethargy and lack of accountability as in the nonprofit sector. Our commercial friends would be fired with customer attrition of 60-70%!
