The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) opened its 47th annual conference in Baltimore MD last night with an agenda chock full of educational programs, and an exhibition hall packed with helpful tools and techniques—all aimed at aiding the process of "getting”.

Of course there’s another essential ingredient to the fundraising equation – the process of “giving”.

On the eve of the AFP Conference, a new – and free – weekly service that alerts fundraisers to new, large and/or  "transformational" gifts was announced by NOZA – the company that scans the web and maintains the world’s largest database of charitable gifts.

NOZA’s Announced Gifts Alert is compiled weekly from the company’s daily scan of millions of web pages. Most of  contributions are of the seven-figure variety, but the editors also include smaller gifts if they deem them as “transformational” or newsworthy.

For example, in the inaugural edition of  the Announced Gifts Alert, you’ll find the ten organizations that  were the recipients of  President Obama’s $1.4 million Nobel Peace Prize award money.

Roger has been focusing lately (with more tomorrow) on “mission competition” and the necessity of being aware of which organizations’ donors – including your own — are supporting. So NOZA’s  weekly Announced Gifts Alert is a great arrow to add to your quiver to monitor trends and competition.

You can sign up for the free email delivery of the Alert here. And you can also get the editors’ take on the weekly list by going to NOZA’s blog.
