Fundraising Tools On Facebook

November 24, 2015      Tom Belford

A new suite of tools to facilitate fundraising on Facebook has just been announced. As with most things Facebook, this offering has received huge publicity, but just in case you’ve missed the news while deep in planning for Giving Tuesday, here are the basics.

Fittingly, the suite of tools is called ‘Fundraisers’.

Here’s a quick announcement video:

‘Fundraisers’ are a dedicated place to raise funds from a nonprofit’s Page for a specific campaign. Basically the tools allow nonprofits to create fundraising campaigns (or other calls to action) to which Facebook users can respond and then Share. All shared posts will also include a Donate button, making it easy for anyone who sees it to donate and join the fundraiser directly from News Feed. All this happens without the user leaving Facebook. [OK, a little self-interest at work, but I’m not complaining.] All very simple in design.

Facebook is testing this and other ‘Donate’ improvements with 37 nonprofits, such as Mercy Corps and World Wildlife Fund. ‘Soon’, they say, the tools will be available to all US 501(c)3 nonprofits.

Here’s where to find out more and get on Facebook’s list to be kept informed of availability.
