Greenpeace Reveals
You might recall that not long ago I buzzed excitedly about a recent campaign launched by Greenpeace.
With a tantalising dollop of mystery, Greenpeace asked recipients of their email message to do an online assessment to see if they had what it takes to be a Greenpeace campaigner … maybe to be selected to join a secret Greenpeace mission.
I found it impossible to resist completing their online survey.
Unfortunately I didn’t have what it takes to make the team.
But a couple of days ago I received the ‘big reveal’ as to the secret mission involved — Save the Arctic.
Turns out the Greenpeace ship Esperanza is tracking Shell Oil’s giant offshore oil rig, the Polar Pioneer, as it’s towed from Malaysia to its next drilling destination, the Alaskan Arctic.
My ‘big reveal’ email came with a video and a ‘first update’ from the intrepid six campaigners. Once on the campaign site, numerous opportunities to get involved, including live contact with the team via social media. But no fundraising appeal.
Sure, it takes the scale and resources of Greenpeace to conduct a communications effort of this complexity. Nevertheless, I urge you to sign up just to observe the ‘bells & whistles’ and see how this plays out. Great learning opportunity. And you might even want to help save the Arctic … almost 7 million others have signed up so far!
For now, I’m loving this campaign … so much potential for engagement and building commitment.
Let’s see how long my enthusiasm lasts!
