Please Pass The Cake

July 9, 2015      Roger and Tom

Here’s your assignment. Write 2,600 articles on fundraising. Make ‘em sharp. Give good advice. Do it for free.

Any takers? We doubt it.

Frankly, no sane person would do what we’re about to describe.

While most of the sector’s fundraisers have been planning their vacations or busily polishing their resumes, preening and positioning to get the next big job with the next big thought, one of our comrades has actually taken the time to read, think and stick his neck out.

We’re talking about the daily wisdom and practical advice delivered by Jeff Brooks through FutureFundraisngNow.com — 2,600 stellar articles delivered FREE each weekday to that select group of fundraisers who can read — and think.

Although The Agitator believes there are few things more worthless than an organization celebrating its own anniversary, today we make an exception.

Jeff has now been blasting out his curmudgeonly thoughts for 10 years. Hates birthday cake. Loves fundraising.

Do you have any idea what it takes to deliver great advice day after day for 10 years in 350 words or less? 2,600 articles. Scrambling to write and meet a daily deadline while you make a living delivering great copy to clients.

Of course you don’t. Most of us probably couldn’t do it if our lives life depended on it.

And that’s all the more reason to celebrate and thank Jeff for all he’s done.

If you don’t subscribe and don’t read Jeff’s daily advice, shame on you. Repent! Sign up immediately for the daily feed to your inbox.

More importantly take the following actions and redeem yourself.

  1. Thank Jeff for 10 years of great and free advice by emailing him at Brooks@truesense.com and personally thanking him.
  1. Buy his books. If you want to learn to write copy and also escape the idiocy of the branding hustle, you’ll love and profit from The Fundraisers Guide to Irresistible Communications and his no-holds-barred The Money-Raising Nonprofit Brand.
  1. Spend some serious time on his website; you’ll find Jeff’s picks for absolute waste and idiocy at Stupid Non-Profit Ads’.
  1. Enjoy pawing through the samples and swipe file and attic of Jeff’s ‘Uncle Maynard’ Treasures’.
  1. Finally, if your eyes by now have failed, you can tune in to Jeff’s podcasts and get an earful at Fundraising Is Beautiful.

Happy Anniversary Jeff!

And yes, of course, you get an Agitator raise.

What do you have to say to Jeff?

Pass the cake please.

Roger & Tom

Brooks clientP.S. Even while celebrating his 10th Anniversary, Jeff keeps his nose to the grindstone. We thought you’d enjoy this photo of Jeff on his dinghy discussing his next copywriting fee with his business agent. [We keep telling him the bodyguard is off-putting to nonprofit clients.] And with all that work, he’s still a handsome guy … has that DiCaprio look.

Here’s to Jeff! I so appreciate all your blogs, day in and day out – they are a refreshing break in my day. My favorites are when you rant. Thanks for carrying it forward, Jeff!
