Professional Development For Nonprofits

June 4, 2007      Admin

Just in case you overlooked, Philanthropy Journal has put together an excellent online special report on professional development for nonprofits.

By one account, over 250 colleges and universities offer at least one course in nonprofit management, while 114 offer a concentration in the area. Many other programs are offered by professional organizations and specialized consultants.

Especially well done is Todd Cohen's overview, which includes some provocative thoughts from Pablo Eisenberg at Georgetown's Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership, who is critical of the lack of foundation support for professional development and worries that academic programs too often fail to make use of practitioners and their hands-on experience and passion.

Worth a read.
