#RE-GIFTING MONDAY

December 18, 2017      Admin

#RE-GIFTING MONDAY marks the kickoff of an unknown two-week holiday seen only on The Agitator’s editorial calendar.

It’s unlike the seasonal “re-gifting”  process where folks pass along gifts they’ve previously received ( ugly sweaters, a vase from a distant aunt, the silk tie or scarf that doesn’t match anything in your wardrobe).

With Agitator Re-gifting  we’re using the holiday period to celebrate and pass along to our readers some true gifts of fundraising insight and advice in the form of outstanding previous posts and salted with some humor.

We’ll start this week off with an earlier post by Tom Belford who invokes the wisdom of Dilbert and Mark Phillips on what makes for great fundraising –and what doesn’t.

We’ll end the week with another Dilbert and an Agitator Christmas Eve tradition you won’t want to miss.

In between– Tuesday through Thursday–we’ve gift-wrapped some additional Agitator goodies for you. Happy unwrapping.

Roger

Mark Phillips of Bluefrog in the UK is one of the most insightful bloggers I read. He recently posted This is not a strategy. The title got my attention. I clicked and was delighted to see that his original source was Dilbert (actually Dogbert), a true fount of organizational knowledge.

As Mark notes, here’s an approach not to follow …

Here’s how Mark describes great fundraising, and I can’t improve upon his words:

“It’s about engagement.

It’s about finding a point of connection that resonates with your audience.

It’s about creating that spark of understanding in your donor that giving brings joy.

It’s about keeping that spark alive and watching it burst into flames as you show your donors that giving is one of the most enjoyable things they can do.

Any idiot can ask someone for a few pounds or dollars. What’s hard is showing someone that their donation is worth far more to them than its cash value.”

Amen!

Tom

P.S. And here’s another nugget from Mark — a video comically depicting The secret life of a donor. Ain’t it the truth! Enjoy.

  1. Roger,
Great post to keep us in the holiday spirit..so true and loved the video, brought some early morning humor to begin the week as we head toward Christmas and keep asking!!

  2. Thanks for the re-gifting. Very special! May there be peace and justice in the new year. A vain hope but a hope for the future someday nevertheless.
