Terrific Nonprofit Viral Videos

June 18, 2010      Admin

A few days ago, I posted some advice regarding creating online videos deserving of viral success.

Here are two examples of such videos.

The first comes from Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and deals with the Gulf oil spill. I think you’ll find this video moving … but I’ll let it speak for itself on that score.*

But additionally, this video isn’t just hanging out there. It is the keystone of a considered strategy that ties together a human element and emotional punch to drive attention to EDF’s established program presence in the region and to the political fight for sound energy/climate policy.

The second video, from playingforchange.com, doesn’t have such a clearly-defined purpose, at least as it came to my attention. But it is so powerful that it’s been viewed some 21 million+ times! If this one doesn’t grab your heart, send for the defibrillator! I dare you to watch it full screen.

Yes, these are videos … but they ride on the power of music. In my book, no nonprofit figured that out better than Amnesty International years ago.

Tom

P.S. Here’s the “clean” YouTube version of the EDF video if you want to pass it along.

A great video from EDF but never, ever have I heard a better version of “Stand by Me.”
    Thanks for sharing.
