Trump Is Actually Making America Great Again

February 21, 2017      Admin

Here at Agitator Global HQ we never know what’s going to pop out of the morning mail bag.

Yesterday’s trove ( it was “Not My President Day” see in the U.S.) brought a gem from Agitator regular Pamela Grow who wrote:

“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it looks like Trump is actually making America great again. Just look at the progress made since the election.”

Pam then went on to list the reasons why.  Here — unedited — they are:

  1. “Unprecedented levels of ongoing civic engagement.
  2. Millions of Americans now know who their state and federal representatives are without having to google.
  3. Millions of Americans are exercising more. They’re holding signs and marching every week.
  4. Alec Baldwin is great again. Everyone’s forgotten he’s kind of a jerk.
  5. The Postal Service is enjoying the influx cash due to stamps purchased by millions of people for letter and postcard campaigns.
  6. Likewise, the pharmaceutical industry is enjoying record growth in sales of anti-depressants.
  7. Millions of Americans now know how to call their elected officials and know exactly what to say to be effective.
  8. Footage of town hall meetings is now entertaining.
  9. Tens of millions of people are now correctly spelling words like emoluments, narcissist, fascist, misogynist, holocaust and cognitive dissonance.
  10. Everyone knows more about the rise of Hitler than they did last year.
  11. Everyone knows more about legislation, branches of power and how checks and balances work.
  12. Marginalized groups are experiencing a surge in white allies.
  13. White people in record numbers have just learned that racism is not dead.
  14. White people in record numbers also finally understand that Obamacare IS the Affordable Care Act.
  15. Stephen Colbert’s “Late Night” finally gained the elusive #1 spot in late night talk shows, and Seth Meyers is finding his footing as today’s Jon Stewart.
  16. “Mike Pence” has donated millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood since Nov. 9th.
  17. Trump has succeeded where thousands of history teachers failed — now everybody knows who Frederick Douglass was.
  18. Melissa FREAKING McCarthy.
  19. Travel ban protesters put $24 million into ACLU coffers in just 48 hours, enabling them to hire 200 more attorneys. Lawyers are now heroes.
  20. As people seek veracity in their news sources, respected news outlets are happily reporting a substantial increase in subscriptions, a boon to a struggling industry vital to our democracy.
  21. Live streaming court cases and congressional sessions are now as popular as the Kardashians.
  22. Massive cleanup of Facebook friend lists.
  23. People are reading classic literature again. Sales of George Orwell’s “1984” increased by 10,000% after the inauguration. (Yes, that is true. 10,000%. 9th grade Lit teachers all over the country are now rock stars.)
  24. More than ever before, Americans are aware that education is important. Like, super important.
  25. Now, more than any time in history, everyone believes that anyone can be President. Seriously, anyone.”

As  far as I’m concerned an Agitator Raise to Pam for stirring the pot.

Feel free to add to this list.

Or, if you’re inclined in the other direction, please feel free to start your own.

I love this piece, Roger, thank you for sharing it. I can’t take credit for writing it, however. I merely shared it from Facebook. After a bit of research, though, it appears to have been written by Susan Keller.

I am so very heartened by each and every one of these responses to our last election. As always, thank you for all that you and Tom do, every day of the week, to create a brighter world.

    26. My husband is no longer trying to remove the “Hilary 2016” bumper sticker from our car.

  3. As the lone conservative Agitator junkie (globally), I think both sides will raise more money in 2017. No doubt that all the reasons listed in this post will inspire many to take action to support liberal causes. I also believe that an environment of improved consumer confidence, a growing stock market, GDP growth and tax cuts will inspire the conservative, more traditional donor to also increase their support.

Let’s hope for the sector that a rising tide raises all ships.

  4. As someone who did not vote for Donald Trump, I was amused by the list presented. While at times hyperbolic and inaccurate, there is much truth in the list.

Unfortunately, I have a particular problem with this item:

“20. As people seek veracity in their news sources, respected news outlets are happily reporting a substantial increase in subscriptions, a boon to a struggling industry vital to our democracy.”

The news media are not respected. A recent poll shows that the media, in general, have a lower approval rating than Congress!

Decades ago, while working as a newspaper editor, I worked alongside Charles Shaw, formerly a member of Edward R. Murrow’s gold-star team of journalists. In 1980, Charlie complained to me about the sorry state of journalism. I can’t imagine what he’d think of a mainstream media today that fails to fact check, makes up stories, twists the words of targets to conform to a political narrative, and colludes with a candidate for president. I can’t imagine what Charlie would say about a so-called journalist who openly weeps when a freely elected new president is announced or, earlier, when another announces he feels a tingle go up his leg when another president was elected.

I do agree with the author’s assertion that a free media are essential to our democracy. Sadly, as a former newspaper editor, I fear that the journalism community is letting us down. Since Charlie is no longer around to sound the alarm, I will. At a time when we desperately need an unbiased, competent press to ensure our democracy, examples of such are few and far between.

#27. News Literacy is trending on Twitter. Maybe we’ll have a movement to differentiate Fox News from the real thing. Big fan of Bill Moyers, Michael. He came out with a great list recently: http://billmoyers.com/story/10-investigative-reporting-outlets-to-follow/
